About She’s Newsworthy Media: 

She’s Newsworthy Media is a PR agency and marketing company run by a team of former journalists who are passionate about amplifying the voices of women and empowering entrepreneurs. The company is the go-to resource for women entrepreneurs who want to get massive exposure for their businesses on TV. The company has helped more than 100 women entrepreneurs land media spots on the most popular Canadian TV shows including The Social, Cityline, CP24 Breakfast, Global News Morning and Your Morning. Here are some of the clients we have worked with over the last few years.

We pitch our client’s expertise to the media very similarly to the way journalists pitch story ideas to their editor or newsroom producer. However, clients collaborate with us and they write their own pitches (we edit) and they are responsible for sending and following up with the media to book their interviews. Typically clients will land three to five media interviews over 12 weeks while working with our team. You can view the types of interviews our clients book here

Office hours:

The regular office hours for She’s Newsworthy Media are 10AM-5PM Monday to Thursday EST and Friday 10AM-12PM. The successful candidate will have to be available to work with clients 1:1 during the day and can choose their hours. 

Media Coach Position: (Independent Contractor) as needed

Location: Remote with a preference in Ontario

Contract Duration: 6 -12 months with potential of being extended 

Hours per month: On an as-needed basis dependent on number of clients  (approximately 10-20 hours per week) 

Fees: $35.00/hour CDN paid monthly

Tasks for the as needed role include by are not limited to: 

Media Coaching: 

  • Developing newsworthy story angles and ideas 

  • Working with the client 1:1 to re-write / edit a media pitch they have drafted

  • Providing clients with the list of media contacts they can send their pitches to using the internal list of She’s Newsworthy Media contacts

  • Drafting a practice intro and questions for mock interview practice

  • Coaching clients for their live and taped TV interviews

  • Sourcing client media clips and providing client feedback after their interview is complete

  • Collaborating and preparing with Jennifer to run weekly group classes

Admin part of this role include by are not limited to: 

  • Checking in on clients daily to see if they need support when drafting or sending out their media pitch and responding to their questions 

  • Attending weekly group classes and providing clients updates and answering their questions about specific media pitches 

  • Updating and scheduling the weekly class email

  • Tracking client updates in shared central document

  • Posting in client LinkedIn group to celebrate when clients land media spots 

The ideal candidates will have the following skills and qualifications: 

  • 5+ years experience working in a Canadian TV newsroom or on a lifestyle show as a writer, producer or reporter

  • Strong sense of news judgment and understanding of what makes a story newsworthy for television media 

  • Knowledge of the Canadian media industry, programs, popular culture, trends and media personalities

  • Exceptional writing, editing and grammar skills and ability to write for TV

  • Strong leadership skills to be able to coach and mentor with compassion

  • Ability to manage multiple projects (client pitches/stories) at the same time 

  • Positive attitude and professionalism when working together, communicating with clients and when representing She’s Newsworthy Media online and in the virtual space 

  • Confident using online tools and software (we help clients virtually!)

  • Clear understanding of why diversity, inclusion and equity are important to storytelling 

  • Degree or certificate in journalism / media studies / PR or equivalent experience 

Apps + tools required for the position: 

The successful candidate will need their own computer and will work from home. The position currently requires the use of LinkedIn Groups, Zoom, Trello, Google Drive, Google Docs, Canva, Learn and Loom.
